If a user attempts to insert any new citations in the document on Word Online, it will overwrite the existing citation index which will break the existing citation formatting. Switching from Word desktop to Word web with Mendeley CiteĬurrently, there are issues with Microsoft Office which means that a user using a document with citations made in Mendeley Cite on desktop Word will not be able to access the citations that exist if opening the relevant document on Word Online. ![]() We recommend that you do not share documents with other users and use Mendeley Cite, whilst we work on building collaboration support in the future. Users who share a file with another user will experience issues where the citation index will mismatch. Mendeley Cite does not currently support collaboration and sharing documents between users. The result causes a miscommunication between the document body and Mendeley Cite. This happens due to the citation being removed from the document, but the citation index is not updated in Cite. We're aware of issues where citations will move out of place after using the undo function in Word. ![]() Using the 'undo' function in Word after inserting a citation This is something we are working on resolving. If you copy and paste from another document, the citation index will break as it will be mismatched from the document and this causes inconsistencies which results in citations ordering incorrectly within the document. Mendeley Cite does not currently support copy and pasting of citations from within the same document or another document. Please see below for ways which we have identified this happening: Unfortunately once the citations are no longer ordered correctly, there is no way to recover your citations. This problem can be happen for a number of reasons and is caused by inconsistency between the citation index (within the document's hidden Mendeley data) and the citations placed within the document itself.
